See more View on facebook 1 week ago View on facebook 2 weeks ago The Moderator has forwarded the Bible passage on which we should focus our thoughts as we come together for prayer this evening at 8.00pm. The prayer points for this week includes some of relevance to the local situation and others have been changed to take account of the current situation in the nation. For the benefit of the newly elected representative elders, the Monday evening Prayer Session was appointed by the Presbytery at its meeting on 17th March 2020. The purpose of the meeting is to seek the Lord's guidance during the coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis and our deliverance from it. It was agreed that the Moderator would issue Prayer Points and choose a passage of scripture each week on which members should focus their thoughts as they prepared for this time of prayer. Please feel free to pass the following on to anyone you think will be interested in joining with us for this allocated time of prayer. Bible Passage: Acts 10 v 34-48. Prayer points: 1. Coronavirus: Give thanks to God for his care and protection and seek that this will continue, now that things are beginning to return to normal. Give thanks that it appears that the virus is nearing eradication in Scotland and pray that in the Lord’s mercy this will be achieved. Pray for the shops and outlets that have opened today and give thanks that things are now at this stage. Pray that this will not lead to any further outbreaks of Covid-19. Pray for the local shops in the islands and that they will continue to supported despite the fact that internet shopping has understandably increased since the lockdown. Pray for the local hotels and guest houses as they face considerable losses and delays before they can re-open fully. Pray for the same nationally. 2. Government: Pray for our First Minister and Prime Minister along with their colleagues in government and their advisers. Pray that members of parliament and their aides will act wisely and consistently, setting an example to the general public. Pray that the economy will recover from the considerable economic outlay entailed in the furlough scheme and other costs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Pray for our local authority officials and councillors, as well as local authorities throughout the country. 3. Schools: Remember our children as schools have closed for the summer holidays. Pray also for teachers as they think ahead and prepare for the next school session. Pray for vulnerable children and families for whom the Covid-19 outbreak has meant additional hardships. 4. Medical: Pray for the medical and scientific teams who continue to care for patients and search for a vaccine. Pray for the carers in our communities, staff and residents in hospitals, Care Homes, and hospices 5. Religious: Pray that we as church leaders may daily surrender our lives to Christ and make the best use of our time during the current restrictions. Pray for vacant congregations within the Presbytery and elsewhere in the Church, now that the General Assembly has authorised that procedures relating to calling ministers and inductions may be carried out through video conferencing facilities. Pray for Donald M Macleod, Angus Macleod and Scott Macleod who are currently under the Presbytery’s jurisdiction and care as they await further developments in their applications. Pray for Edinburgh Theological Seminary staff and for the students currently undertaking studies there. Pray for the wider Church and for our own denomination as continue to provide gospel services and pastoral care as far as possible. Pray that the Lord would bless his word to the saved and unsaved alike. Pray that increased interest in gospel services would lead to conversions and a deepening of our own commitment as Christians. 6. Social and Commercial: Pray for those who organise and run food banks and the increasing number of people who have used them over the past months. Pray for those who have become unemployed since the lockdown. Pray for businesses suffering under lockdown and for those whose businesses have collapsed. Pray at this time of civil unrest, that we would see an end to violent protests. Pray that through the gospel the hatred evident in such protests might be overcome by the reconciling grace of God in our communities. Pray for Churches and other agencies involved directly in attempts to bring healing to divided communities. Pray for the police as they try to manage mass demonstrations and violent assaults against them. Pray that they will not succumb to political correctness and pressure groups that are intent on imposing their ideology on our communities. Pray for all sections of the media, that their reporting may be factually accurate, unbiased and independent of political influence. ...
